|

| My dad and I got to the 13 mm at about 3pm Friday afternoon and enjoyed the best fishing conditions at PINS I've seen in a long time. As day turned to night, the new park ranger stopped by to say hi and continued south. After catching a few keepers we took a break and sat down. It seemed like we were the only people for miles. At about 7:30 we noticed a set of headlights heading north. As we were both watching the headlights 1/4 mile away, 2 more sets of headlights shot out of the dunes behind the first set. Shortly there after the red and blues came on. After wondering what was happening, 45 minutes later the cherrys went off and 2 of the 3 vehicles passed us by. One park ranger and one border patrol with many passengers in the back. The 3rd vehicle was a late model, light colored Bronco that was picked by the border patrol later on. We both started wondering about the hows and what ifs of the illegal aliens. Both of us hoping that the people picked up were friendly people from the south looking for a better life and not the more hostile brand of illegals from lands far away. Anybody seen or heard of how immigrants get to PINS? That's a long ride in a small boat from Mexico! After watching a black sky blanketed with a zillion stars we called it a night. We started talking about Saturday's plan of attack. Saturday brought 2 bull reds, pomps, extra large hardhead, and a whiting on every cast using peeled shrimp and green fishbites. We had a blast catching fish all weekend. The bait of choice for us was live finger mullet. With a never ending train of them heading south, bait was plentiful. - Pebster |

Once at the south jetty of the Mansfield cut, a bunch of bicycles were left abandoned, presumably by illegals. How they got across the cut who knows. _________________ Lefty Ray

| About ten years ago, I came across an entire family of Mexican Nationals that had somehow got on Pins. There was probably 20 or 30 of them. I saw them in the dunes as I was making my way just north of Yarb. Pass. A few of them waived me down. All they said was agua. While my (armed) partner kept an eye on them, I emptied all the food and water I had in my ice chest. They thankfully shook my hand and gave me many gracias's. I was glad to do something nice for them. At the same time, I felt like a rat because I knew I had to tell someone. We reported it to the ranger station and never heard anything else about it. I imagine that this takes place way more often than we hear about. Has anyone heard of any of these Nationals actually being violent or stealing vehicles on the beach? |

just to give you surf fisherman a heads up!
drug runners are becoming more and more prevalent on PINS. they will do whatever they can to protect their loads so don't try to be a hero and approach/stop them. call a ranger or TPWD and inform them of any suspicous activity you see down there. they too are armed, usually heavily. |

My wife and I were leaving the beach at dusk a few months back and drove past two newer model Lincolns with a bunch of 20 and 30 year old guys in Italian suits and lots of gold hanging out at the 12 mile marker staring at the water...
We knew what they were up too, and did not even look in their direction. Heading off the beach, we saw a ranger heading down that way, so we didn't pay much attention to it, because we knew he would spot them. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

| A couple of Border Patrol agents rent houses from me. They tell me that they're seeing more and more OTM's (other than Mexicans). Anything from South American, Chinese and even Middle Eastern! They sometimes blend in with the regular Mexican aliens. Some of these folks have thousands and thousands of dollars on them so they're not here to "work". I always carry a little something extra with me to the deer blind in case I run into some bad guys. |

Was at the landcut about 5yrs ago and saw firsthand how they get across the mansfield channel. I saw a pickup unload 5 people on the South Padre side of the channel. Each packed their clothes except underwear into personal trash bags. One person swam across the channel with a string attached to him. Once across, he would pull the string with the others on an inflatable toy raft. They waited in the dunes for their contact to arrive but never showed up. Two of them tried to sneak up to the campsite at night to take some things but I put the spotlight on them. A guy in our group gave them some basics(food/water). I would be careful at night to protect yourself. Most of them are trying to seek a better life but you may come across someone who is fleeing their country for a different reason or is on the run.
A few years before that, we had a group of men drive up to our camp around the 23mm and started to ask some strange questions. Only the driver talked and the rest never made eye contact. They were camped about 300yds down and we could hear them shooting some type of machine guns into the dunes at their camp at night. Luckily we had about 12 guys in our camp and some were peace officers. We were ready to take action just in case. I think we were camped in their landing zone. They had no fishing rods, ice chests and they took off down the beach(south) during the day but came back at night. |
