How do we know you are not the one spreading the virus? Getting us to click on your link we may get infected. Some of us are smarter than you give us credit for. ( Bad choice of words in your post). Thanks for the warning...Adios

Since I put up the warning earlier, I have to assume you're referring to me.
It's smart to be leary about the warning. I guess I could have just copied and pasted the text from the McAfee advisory, but I think it seems more legit if you can see it for yourself.
If you don't trust my link, check out any anti-virus site and they'll tell you all about the latest threats. Symantec is a good one for that. I won't post a link though. I'll let you search for yourself.
The bottom line is that you have to be careful of any links that you see in your email.
And I think if you read my posts on this forum, you'll find that I'm here to learn about fishing and I want to make whatever contributions I can to the members here. It's not like I'm shy about posting. My real name is in my signature, and my personal email is in my profile, and I'd be happy to provide my address and phone number as well if you don't trust me. I don't have to hide myself behind screen names and anonymous profiles.
I'd like to know what about the wording of my post seems wrong. I thought it was pretty straight up. I certainly didn't imply that anyone is dumb, if that's what you mean. If you have something to say, say it. My email is right there to use for such things.
Oh, someone remind me in the future to refrain from trying to help people here. That's the second time I've been given crap for trying to warn people away from something potentially harmful. _________________ Chad Landry

Chad, it all comes down to a choice on the part of anyone who reads your warning. I can only speak for myself, but I appreciate your effort to alert the group on this site. It is everyone's own decision whether to trust you or not, and if someone doesn't, it should end with that person simply not clicking your link. I signed up officially only recently because I don't get to fish nearly as often as I would like living in San Antonio compared to when I lived in Corpus and therefore, don't feel I have much to contribute. But, I do visit the site at least every other day and have for many months to the point where I believe I have picked up on the members who DO have very much to contribute. I won't name names of these members because I know I will leave someone out, but you are on the list. So, keep on posting and feel free to pass on any info you think might be of assistance to us, fishing related or not.

| I'm an IT student in my last semester of college. i know how all this stuff works with viruses and security and the whole works the best thing to do is go to this sitehttp://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp?lid=zaskulist_download and click on free download or if you are real paranoid use the more expensive ones. i insure all my computers with this free personal firewall. it is great just be sure when it is loading on your computer you choose the free download if not it will give you a trial version of the 29$ package. this blocks all cookies, pop-ups, scanners, spyware, trojanware, keyloggers the whole works. if you like a little more security like me visit http://www.majorgeeks.com and click on security you can download spywareguard and spywareblaster which are both great packages. ewido offers another great package that offers security. everything you could need is in these places and if anyone has any questions about security let me know. |
