| woke up at 5:30 sat. and headed out to aransas pass to catch some bait. found some mullet in the channel by conn brown. the water was sure cold that cold front brought the temperature down big time. anyway i caught a few mullet when i turned to look towards the channel right beside the bridge there was a huge school of mullet being chased by birds and probably some good reds. headed to charlies pasture to try to catch some early morning fish, but no takers just one ugly fish i have never seen before. long and skinny had an adipose fin like a catfish had patterns on the back like a snake, mostly light gray to dark gray, and some mean teeth, any ideas. decided to head to fish pass, no redfish action at all. lots of mullet running in the surf and lots of spanish, but no taker. started hooking in to some fat sand trout and big croaker in the 12-18 in range. loaded up the stringer with some nice sand trout. my father in law had a damn good bite bent his pole over nice and peeled some drag., but busted off at the rocks. i figured a nice red. after about 3 hours of sand trout action we headed back to charlies pasture because on of the guys said they were catching nice reds at night. stayed there till about 8pm with no takers just a small croaker, some red perch with a black spot on the back any idea's? and a nasty scorpion fish. after that all that was biting was the mosquitoes, so we came home with a gallon bag full of sand trout fillets, but no redfish. what a bummer. |

I caught one of those too, wasn't sure what it was... So it is a puffer? Didn't h ave any spines or needles... Are they edible? Seemed perfectly harmless...
