Cuz,
After 43 views of your post, I am surprised nobody answered your question! ....Best bet is to call Holiday Shores and ask questions! (I am more than willing to call the # for you, if you provide me with it!)
However, I am somewhat confused as to the remandering with what is safe/unsafe? Undertow? Rip-tides? Jetties? Rip-raff? Oyster shell?
Let me know, dude! _________________ "I just got a new fly-fishing rod and reel for my wife. It was the best trade I've ever made!" |

OK, I fish that area alot, and can help out.
There is a long cement wall extending out from the back parking lot of the hotel. This is a great area for picking up trout. Walk the wall and fish both sides. There are pylons every 15 feet or so. Stand on these and fish. Do not attempt to walk on the wall if it is wet, unless you are very sure footed. There is almost nothing to hang up on on bottom there, with the exception of just a few rocks at the first corner and the wall itself. There is also a broken section of the wall just past the corner, but the cement there is stable and can be crossed if careful not to fall. You will be able to work the beach from there.
With the cooler water this time of year (but not as cool as it normally would be), you need to work slow and low with a dark colored jig. Bass Assassian in Root Beer is my favorite color off the wall. Use a 1/8 oz jughead if the wind and tide are calm. If either is up, us a 1/4 oz jighead. Pay special attention to the first corner on the outside. Work this in a fan retrieval pattern, starting at one side, and making casts every ten degree until you reach the other end.
Another option t hat produces is live shrimp under a popping cork. The L head is right up the road from you to the north about 1 mile. Great bait stand. Try several areas of the wall.
The wall produces best early morning, and midafternoon.
The wall is very popular on weekends, so try not to block the walk path. Put tackle out of the way on the pylons, and watch when walking past others gear. too many times I have walked out and been blocked by others tackle.
You will see another wall that completes the little harbor area. It can be reached from Cole Park whch is about 1 mile south of you. There is also a good hole down the landsdie retaining wall by the docks. Walk all the way to the condo fence, and cast straight out. Retrieve nice and slow, with little twitches.
The little beach runs shallow and out to the edge of the wall where it switches over to the natural mud bottom. It is normally not working from shore, because at maximum cast distance the water is only about a foot deep. In the summer. its enough to catch them up close at dawn, but in the winter, you will only find them up shallow when the sun is shining bright to get warm. That conversion line is what you want to work at the end of the first wall corner.
The biggest speck I have ever seen swam past me in he water there, while I stood on the corner. I thought it was a really big red at first, as she hung to the shadows of the wall, but when she came into the light, I could see the silver, green and spots. I was casting over and over right in front of her. Even hit her right in the face with a lure, but to no avail. She was not interested in being caught. That fish had to go at least 35", maybe longer, and at least 12lbs. thick like a log. She yawned once while I was trolling everything I could past her, and I swear a volleyball would have fit in that mouth! So there are big fish there. Although most of what you will catch will be undersize, you should find enough keepers to keep you busy.
Good luck and tight lines! _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

I have this feeling that the "Big" adjective is not for his physical size, but for the size of Big John's heart! ....He's a goldmine of information, dude!

Thanks, but I think it is more for my size. 6'4", 275lbs (down nearly 75 lbs from where I got this nickname at 350lbs)
I am working on loosing the weight and being "Not so Big John" Maybe even eventually "Little John" _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
