I saw this weekend that there's not going to be much tide movment during the day. Is do the fish still bite in the surf or is it better to work some structure like a jetty during a slack tide?

Some of my best days fishing have been on a slack tide, where there is very little tidal movement. The water tends to clear up. So look for trout in the pinches and suckputs during the day, reds in the deep guts right after sun-up and before sundown, and Pomps and whiting throughout the day on the back sides of the bars if the weather holds nice.

Just a warning, some of our weather guys up here are now saying that this weekend could be colder than this last weekend, and it is likely to be wet too. A slight possibilty of frozen precip.

If thats the case here in San Antonio, I would say very windy, cold, and wet conditions could easily show up on the coast this weekend. That means the surf could be blown out. Look for reds at night off Bob Hall, or drum of the JFK causeway piers at night. Be prepared for the worst, and id the weather is better, its a pleasant surprise, instead of the other way around.

Tight Lines!

I have experienced catching trout on a slack tide after a strong incoming tide.

But not in 30mph winds.

30 mph wind will create some water movement.
