Yesterday I caught a few reds and when I cleaned them, I just wanted to see what they had been feeding on. I checked one and I found a small crab. No surprise there...Then I checked another and a big surprise. I found three jigheads and plastics. One was a red killer, the other a cocaho minnow and the other ???.
I was wondering if anyone has ever seen this before. I have caught fish with hooks in their mouth, but nothing like this before.
One other thing is that none of the lures had any line on them. I know the line will breakat the knot, but all three?

| Maybe the lures weren't tied on when the red ate 'em. |

I would imagin that the line would desolve faster than the rest of the lure. Or the people tying the knots have a lot to be desired _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.

| Thanks for sharing the pictures. I have found plastic baits in Redfish I've opened up, but no line attached. Maybe the stomach acid affects the line, prior to the plastic itself?? |

I've found all kinds of stuff in their stomachs including rubber grommets, lures, bottle caps, etc. These dudes can stomach just about anything!

That just go to show you redfish will eat just about anything. Not to top your story but a couple of years ago I had a client catch a redfish that
was 30" long (if I remember correctly). We noticed it was very fat. Back at Marrker 37 Marina Roger Varr cleaned our fish and to everyone's amazement the fish had a piece of reinforced raidator (rubber) hose in it's stomach. The piece of hose was 2" dia. and a little over 8" long.
I think Roger took the hose home, painted eyes and put some hooks on it.
LOL. |

It's amazing that they taste so good on the halfshell considering their diet! |

| There was an article published in Redfish Nation magazine a few months back where a lady had done a survey on the contents of Redfish stomachs and to her amazement they had reports and pics of everything from small toy soccerball to a field mouse. She summed it up by saying " let's me just say this, If redfish where 100 lbs heavier and grew to 15 - 20 ft I would NOT be swiiming where redfish live." The study was done primarily in Tx and La. |

I think I would have to agree with this gal, but I think that I would quit wading at about the 5ft mark. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.

Hook was gone - just the lure remained in the stomach:
Strawberry White color. Anyone loose a bait like this to a fish near the Mansfield Jetties? _________________ Ahh sand between my toes! |

| Last fall I found three soft plastics in a red's stomach. A cocahoe, an assasin and a boone tout. No jigheads. They were in various stages of disenegration but looked as if they had been in it's stomach for a long time. |
