Beach access debate

COMING SOON: The Caller-Times and Caller.com will present an in-depth, four-day, multimedia series on an issue that's stirring the souls of surfers, sunbathers and sandcastle-builders throughout the Coastal Bend: Should stretches of local beaches be closed to traffic for the sake of development and safety?

With notepad, audio equipment and cameras in hand, Caller-Times reporter Nick Nelson and photographer George Tuley trekked to and from Galveston, South Padre Island and two resorts in Florida, observing what the future might hold for Corpus Christi's beaches.

They returned with photographs, stories and lessons learned from community that have faced the dilemma of how to balance the economic benefits of development with the public's ability to access the beach.

Check out Caller.com and the Caller-Times on Sunday for the first installment -- A look at two Florida resorts that inspired the project on the table for Padre Island.
