I read somewhere you were fishing a steelhead rod. I just don't remember where I saw it. What do you use it for and how do you like it?
I purchased a steelhead blank about a year ago and still have not built it. I thought it would be a good choice for specifically throwing soft plastics a bit further. _________________ Erick- Cast till it MHz

It is very light for a steelhead rod. It is an 8.5 foot Lamiglas Norwester spinning rod rated 1/4 to 1/2 ounce I believe. It is my all around trout rod for the surf.

| Try some of the HotShot style blanks used for steelhead fishing. Loomis makes one, model HS9000, that is great for trout/redfish using anything from soft plastics to topwaters. |

Tyler does that rod wear your shoulder out or can you throw it all day? I have a 8'6'' Shimano Clarus Steelhead rod that throws from 1/4 to 3/4 oz.
I use it for spoons and lures and after an hour I'm switching over to a 7 footer that weights less because casting it wears my shoulder out. I have a Tica Libra 4500 reel on it,there not that heavy. |

No it doesn't. I just looked and it is rated 3/8ths to 3/4ths oz. 8 to 12lb line. |

My steelhead rod:
I bought mine from Cabelas:
Fenwick HMXS86L 8'6" 2 Lengths 4-15# line Rated: 3/16 - 1/2 oz $94.95
Used a BG-15 Diawa with 16# Fireline. Great surf rod for chunking into the wind. All IM-7 Graphite so it was not that heavy. It's great with non-stretch braided on light spinning reel. It would be hard to work baits with light mono.
Broke the sucker last year and have not replaced it yet. _________________ Ahh sand between my toes! |
