You probably wouldn't think a guy from Midland would pipe up with an answer to this one, but I happen to know the answer to this one. Charlie's Pasture Peir is in Port A. Turn right just after you get off the ferry by the Circle K and turn right again behind the Circle K. Go down about a half mile.

Great place to fish this time of year! Very Happy

When you get off the ferry from Aransas Pass to Port A, hang a right at the first light, hang another right behind the Circle K, follow that road down to the peir on the right.

That is where I caught my 41 in red a week ago plus many others caught that same night. There was a group that took 8 oversized reds home. They would catch 2 and then drive them home and come back for more.

Congrats on your 41" red Mastergunner Very Happy

I take it they probably were not tagging those oversized reds were they?
I hope they were though.

Have caught many fish there in the past, it is a great place to fish this time of year. Have caught reds, specks, & flounder all in the same night several times before.

I don't think you can reach the flats on land. The road dead ends into a barbed wire fence just a little ways down. However, I've heard guys on this board mention that there are other ways through town to get back where you want to go.

Anyone care to help us out here?

My first fishing excursions at the coast were spent at Charlie's Pasture and lots of fish and good times were had there before they refurbished the pier and added the seawall. It was a great place and that was where I caught my first Bullred, 41". There was a time that you could drive all the way back to what was a small pass with one of those jettys that look like a sand filled tube of kevlar or some other material. I'm not sure if you can get that far back anymore though. Just be aware...if you do get back there...stay off the jetty. They mean do business when they say to stay off.

Theres a way you can reach the flats but I would need a map to show you if you never been back in there or not familiar with Port/A.
Heading south from the ferry on Cut-off rd (ave G) take a right on the rd just past the new carwash. (by RV park) Follow it back & it will wind around to your left. look to your right & youll see wide open flat land (not to sandy) Head SW & youll be at east flats. Gets softer the closer you get to the water.

yeah-hookshurt definately knows now that the keep off the jetty sign is for real. We were down there fishing off of the jetty/seawall and some people came by in a boat and yelled at us to get off of the jetty A$$holes. being the young sarcastic fishermen that we use to be before we became internet pros, hookshurt and I gave them the #1 sign and continued fishing. Not long after that hookshurt falls in a huge crevice breaking his wrist and slicing his hand wide open. It was quite comical to see this happen and luckily for hookshurt the boat had just got out of sight or they would have probably made another pass to laugh at him. So from now on everytime I see hookshurt climbing on something he shouldn't be-I yell at him to "get off the jetty &%&$". Guess you would have had to been there to truly enjoy the humor in the story. Classic good ole party days in Port A. Those were truly the good times- Tons of beer, Cheap walmart surf gear, cutbait, kamikazee shots, and wild women at sharkies.

You can drive all the way from Charlie's Pasture to the Island Mooring canal into the CC SHip Channel. There a couple of places to launch a kayak along that little channel. Paddle across the channel and you enter East Flats. Very nice place with absolutely no crowds!!!!!!

Drive all the way to the end of the bulkheads at Charlie. Turn onto the dirt road to the left that goes out on to the tidal flats. Follow the most worn trails as far as you can. With 4x4, no problem getting all the way to the channel if the tides are not monster high. You can get pretty close maybe even all the wya in just a 2wd.

I have been threw charlies pasture many times, at that channel I cut my foot wide open( picture for proof). What size tires do you have? Along the beach part on the way to the channel can get very soft, just stay close to the dune area and give it gas. A buddy of mine sunk is GMC back there while we where driving around. Here is the picture...
P.S. If you see a stick standing in a puddle, dont go threw it.
