Headed out with my fishing buddy Snagged hoping to get some red snapper action this morning. Lot's of boats launching out of Port A today. We headed to some rigs SE of Port A in 150 ft. of water. There was a crew boat tied so the rig to we decided not to tie up and noticed several other boats including the Dolphin from Dolphin Docks. We drifted the rig but no snaps and noticed everyone else was drifting for Kings. When in Rome as they say! We proceeded to rig up with some sardines and drifted by the crew boat. Snagged yells fish on and I put my rod in the holder and grab the gaff, well by the time I get the gaff my rod goes off. Double hook-up and Texas Tangle. We gaff Snagged's king and unwrap the lines and put my king in the boat. It ain't snapper but kings are fun to catch. We continue drifting from the rig, parallel to the crew boat and had a fish on by the time we passed the bow of the crew boat. We could have done that all day but I wanted some snapper. We headed to Double Yellow but no luck. There was a huge weed line there that we trolled a bit with no luck. We headed to a closer in rig that had some snapper but were too small to keep. We stoppped at a few weed patches on the way in looking for chicken dolphin with no luck. So the only thing we could find were kings. I need to find some more snapper spots -the freezer is empty.
