| Well, Saturday was the big day. My bother in laws and I had planned on going on a chartered off shore fishing trip since February. Everybody was pumped and looking forward to it. Trip turned into a nightmare! Had to rank as one of my top 10 most miserable days. A cold front was supposed to get here Saturday night, well after we were back in. Well.... when we got to the dock at Port A Saturday morning about 5 a.m. the cold front was already barrelling through San Antoinio. The Charter company (Dolphin Docks) decided to change our trip from a 12 hour trip to an 8 hour trip. They figured they could get us out there and back before the weather got bad and the seas got too rough. There were 33 of us on board and everybody seemed okay once they explained why they were making the change. Weather at that point was balmy and warm. We loaded on the boat and left the dock at 6:10 a.m. No sooner than we had gotten 300-500 yards out of the jettys and into the Gulf, the front hit with a wallop. Waves picked up immediately and within minutes everybody who was not in the cabin was wet. Then the cold hit, and we were wet and cold. Seas went from 4 to 6 feet to 8 to 10 feet in a hurry. The Captain was doing everything he could to keep up headed in the right direction, and he would speed up or slow down to lessen the impact of the waves hitting us. It wasn't long until folks started getting sick. There were a couple of guys who had only worn shorts and t-shirts that I was afraid were suffereing from hypothermia. But the problem was that if you got inside you increased your changes of getting sick. The original plan had been to motor out for about 2 hours and get 30 or so miles off shore. By two hours, we were only 18 miles out. Anyway, despite my best efforts and a patch behind the ear, I joined the folks at the rail . . .several times. By the time the Captain stopped over a wreck to try to let the ones still standing a chance to fish, there were very few standing. As I made a trip to the head, I watched a guy pull up two snappers at the same time. I never wet a hook. When I saw the hands pass out cups of cut up sardines and squid to use for bait, it was rail time for me again. After we had been on station about 30 minutes, the Captain called it quits, and told us we were heading back in and everybody would get a rain check. It was just too rough. That was music to my ears. On one of my trips to the head, which was the only dry and out of wind place I found, I managed to get a ginger snap down. That stopped the upset stomack. I crawled into a seat inside the cabin and waited to get back to port. Trip back was much better as we had the wind and waves behind us. Got back to the dock about 10:30 a.m. I didn't see anybody hang around; everybody was miserable. Company did us right as everybody got rain checks. Sunday and today, I feel like I have been in a car wreck. My ribs and shoulders are stiff and sore. I thought I was going to die when I sneezed while ago. Anyway, it will be a faded memory soon, and we'll plan on trying again. |

| had that happen to me one time out with deep sea headquarters, it was in the fall and we were fishing off of a rig we were tied up to. cold front hit and man did it get nasty swells were well over the boat when we were in the trough. everyonewas sick as a dog. the current and wind was so strong the boat couldn't untie from the rig so the hand had to cut the rope and then we were on our way so we thought after about 15 min of full throttle we hadn't moved but like 10 ft from the rig so we headed out towards victoria and then worked our way back up the coast to port a. worst trip ever. we even saw funnel clouds out there. |

I had just hit the IC near JFK when the first cold wind hit. As my son and I idled back down the canal to the Condo he said "I wonder if anyone tried to go offshore and got caught in this"
It was cold!!!!! _________________ Catch, Release, Catch, Release |

Saturday morning was a rough day to be out ... even on the beach! Hate that quesy feeling coming on ... not much you can do. At least they did right by the passengers with the rain check ... sounds like a standup outfit. _________________
