I took a business trip up to Austin yesterday morning. I drove my Suburban. My timing was good based on my average speed up there. No heart thumpers because I didn't see any Troopers on the way up.
I got near downtown Austin close to Exit 230B. Traffic slowed as usual! I slowed down in the process. I was on the far left lane. When traffic started rolling again, my Suburban just layed their and played DEAD! It definitely was a good acting job. I tried cranking and cranking that baby. No luck. Traffic behind me was terrifying. I just pictured all the pissed off people behind me. I had emergency flashers and emergency lights on. I remained in the Sub. and called 9-1-1 and Triple A. It took them about 50 minutes to respond to me. Finally, my Sub was on the roll-up tow truck. Got to a nearby Chevy Dealer (Capitol Cheverolet). Right off the bat, they said it would cost me about $90 for diagnosis. I told them that the tower believed it was the fuel pump. Nevertheless, kerchunk-kerchunk for their normal way of doing business to rack up money for service center. I told them I was out of town and needed to get back on the road. The service lady was extremely helpful and said she would see if she can bump the tickets around. Waited and waited in the lounge. She came to see me with the work paper... slowly and carefully told me the "BAD" news. We can fix your truck..... here's what it's going to cost..... $899 plus tax. Yikes. I asked her what's really needed and what's the cost: Total - $833 baby.
That Austin dealership labor is $89/hour. I got charged for 4 hours. Oh man, I was definitely wishing that I was in Corpus. The hourly rate would have been a little less, right? I was stuck and desperate, so there went the plastic card and NO new TV for a while (my living room TV just went out last week). BUMMER. NOTE: If anyone believes their fuel pump is going on their Suburban, GET IT CHANGED quick while you're at your home city. If you're a DIY, you can probably drop the tank yourself and install the fuel pump. Save about $200-400 in labor costs!
There's always a good side of any situation, right? No one hit me and wrecked my truck on that crazy I-35. And my Twins weren't with me struggling through that situation. Plus, I don't live in Austin and I'm back in Corpus for some FISHING when time allows. Dawg gone it, I need to catch a RedFish to make me feel much better. _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Sorry to hear about your problems while up here in Yuppyville. Glad you got your problems fixed and back on the road home to where most of us in the Austin area want to be - that beautiful Texas coast. Have a good one and go catch that Red! _________________ Jeff |

At that same dealership, I test drove a new Silverado. When I brought it back from the test drive and said, no thanks, they said "While you were gone, we sold your trade-in, it's gone".
So I had to buy a Colorado, or walk home! And it's been a real POS! |

Sbeavers , you have a lawsuit. Call any attorney, they would love to have it. If you had not already signed the papers to sell your trade in to them, then they owe you the full KBB value of the vehicle and you may be able to get additional money as a penalty for their behavior.
You may also be entitled to a full refund of the purchase price of you Colorado, because they practiced unfair and undue influence as well as a string of other possible offenses. A practicing attorney here in Texas would have a field day with this one. |

Simple answer to your question Marvin.....
- TWINS-TWINS (now and then, they do like to watch a little TV... NOT much, but my son does like to play X-Box now and then... Great kids... not TV junkies!). Other less important reasons when I have time...
- 6 am and 10 pm news
- Letterman
- McGloughlin on PBS
- Globetrekker on PBS
- NASCAR races
- March Madness
- SuperBowl
- Tour de France
- Iron Man
- X-Games
It would be nice to have one of those large LCD projection TVs... especially watching a fishing show on a rainy day! _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Fish To Live Today

Mr. C
I thought you got that pump replaced when you were having the problem about running out of fuel at a 1/4 tank? |

Well cctxfis,
I took so many suggestions, including taking it to AutoZone to get their sensor plugged in and analyze for problems. They recommended changing plugs and doing a tune up. I did that. That didn't do it. O'Reilly said it may be water in the tank and recommended putting Heet in the tank. I did that several times and it appeared that that did the trick until Yesterday. Then, I hit the road and it hit the fan... oh, it hit my empty wallet. Bummer. (It's my Twin's birthday on 26th. I usually go all out on them. I have to be more controlled this year... ughhh.)
I got so many recommendations. I tried several least expensive options and it appeared that did the trick. However, as you now know I got kicked in the butt on the highway.
I'm just glad that my Twins weren't stuck with me on that busy I-35 . I35 Austin (downtown) is DANGEROUS when stranded on left lane - no shoulder, no shoulder on right lane either in many parts near exit 230's. _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Fish To Live Today
