Can you help me with something? How many sandbars are there, accessible from the surf, without a boat? I seem to remember 3, with the best fishing from the 3rd of course. I haven't had the guts (or the buddy willing to accompany me) to wade to what we referred to as the 3rd bar, in years. It seems to me the first gut was waist deep, the second chest deep, and I remember holding a casting rod in my teeth and swimming a few yards through the deepest gut before reaching the 3rd bar. Are my memories correct?
Can you fish from the 2nd bar with any success?
Thanks! |

My answer would be yes.One thing I wouldn't want is to get my reel suburged in saltwater. It's like sealing it's faith.Ya know when I surfed years back, heading out to the third sand bar was the place on good days. It's chest to neck deep on the bar.And I'm 6',4".Might be hard to fish.Oh ya,watch out for the wild life out there! _________________ Live to fish.Fish to live! |

Wade fishing the 3rd bar isn't the best idea. It gets a little deep out there. It might work out a little better with an extremely low tide.
There is plenty of great fishing in the 2nd gut. Plus, with a good surf rod, you can wade out to the second bar and cast to the 3rd.
Cheers,

Wave rider has the right idea there, and I would add that Tiff and I have reeled in many fish from the first and wade guts as well, and I have seen BIG sharks cruising in two feet of water or less out there, so be careful.
If you want to fish beyond the third bar, my suggestion is to get a yak or a surf casting rod from Breakaway Tackle. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
