I must admit, I have developed a taste for gray snapper. I have been able to catch them hand over fist off of the Port A S. Jetty on live shrimp. Of course, I pull in sheepshead and the occasional red, these suckers jut taste so good. I find myself targeting gray snapper near the rocks while waiting on my surf rod to bend on a mullet. It has become addicting Cool .

Anybody else enjoy gray snapper?

(I think those snapper "fangs" look cool)

My favorite fried fish is mangrove snapper. Delicious! I've only had them fried because the fillets were on the small side. Is gray snapper the same as mangrove? I've caught mangroves near the jetties, and wish i could get some more !

I love those nasty little thugs! A one or two pounder can make you forget the trout aren't biting. Down here, you'll find those little monsters anywhere there's structure. Great little fish.

Hey yall another very fun and tough way to get those bad boys is to spear them with a Hawaiian sling. It is fun and if the water is clear enough you can uauly get a good load of them ina few hours. They are hard to get so ya have to be real sneaky but if ya like to snorkle and ya have $16 for a sling then you are ready to go. Also you can spear sheapshead and some crabs there.
Just be careful ya do not get excited when ya see a 17 inch snook cause that will cause ya a heafty fine. Believe it or not there are snook all over that s.jetty I find most of them by the coastguard station.
I hope to see all of yall soon. Austin is great but when the weather permits I wish I had a warp zone to PINS

Keep on fishing

Justin7-11,

I use a size 2/0 hook and free line off of the bottom w/ a live shrimp.
Hook-em' through the head as the gray snapper target that part of the shrimp. No need to cast too far as they are about 5-10ft from the jetty rocks.

Just saw Star Wars Episode III and now it is time to become a jetty knight.
