What a FANTASTIC city - Portland, OR!
Wish I could get some fishing in while I'm here, but all WORK. The salmon run is behind schedule nevertheless. Oh well.
Good fishing CorpusFishing.Com fans!

And here I thought you were just across the causeway.
I'll be in Rock Springs, Wyoming tomorrow. Wish I had a fly-rod! _________________ Chad Landry

I have been both places. Portland is beautiful in the summer. Chad Rock Springs is a great name for that place as it was very dry and consists of what looks like nothing but broken up rocks and no dirt! I imagined looking for fossils in that area when I spent the night there when we were on our move to Corpus Christi!. You all have fun!

Tell us about Portland, Redfish Chaser! I hope to visit there someday, but I don't think they do much drilling up there.
I've been to Rock Springs. For me it's just the airport and hotel center. I'll be working in the mountains about an hour from Rock Springs. Beautiful country. Lots of Antelope up there. Prairie dogs everywhere too. Wyoming is like going back in time about 25 years. They have a drug store up there that sells beer, liquor, guns, ammo, and fishing gear in addition to the usual pharmaceutical items. My kind of store. |

Been there 3 times. Gorgeous place but was raining all but 1 day. Saw guys out playing golf. Asked my business associate what's up with the golf in pouring down rain? He looked at me like the idiot I probably am and said "it's not bad out today." Gorgeous spot but too much rain for me. All that rain almost drove our buddy Tyler to the nut house when he lived in Seattle.
Hope you have lots of sunshine while there!

I got turned around right before I entered the terminal building at CC airport. The job has been postponed, but no one knows by how much, so I have to remain close to the phone and get to stay home a little longer.
I saw your vehicle there, Mr. C. _________________ Chad Landry

10-4 on such a great place - Portland, OR. All work. Not much else. I'd like to bring my Twins this way somewhere in the future. It's incredible here. I like the light rail trains. It's free in the city boundary. Clean, relatively quiet, no hassle getting around town.
The weather has been GOOD. No real rain during the days. Partly cloudy.
I wish I could see more fishing pictures in Corpus. Hasn't anyone been catching much fish?
May starts the CCA fishing tournament. I'm going to be chasing for that tagged Red. Maybe... just maybe, the fish gods will let me hook up on one.
Have a great fishing weekend Team CorpusFishing.Com! _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Fish To Live Today

| I lived there for 5 years before moving back to Corpus to go to school. My mom still lives there, and I am going up for a visit in the summer. The oversize sturegon (5+ feet) as well as the salmon are starting to bite. My mom said further down south an sea lion go into one of the fish ladders and chowing down on them. Only 46 salmon have made it past him, but theres nothing much the F&W people can do. If your heading up that way I can tell you where to go, where to fish, and what sights to see. Jason Slocum |

Jason,
While I was there, I heard about the two Sea Lions making their way up the ladder to chow down on the slow Salmon run. I've heard that the Sea Lions are protected in Portland. They swarm all over fishing docks/boat slips, etc. I understand from last nights "GlobeTrek" travel show that the Sea Lions take most of the fish caught by commercial fishermen: 2 out 3. Tough on the fishermen I suppose. I wonder what the best solution is.
I had dinner at the "Lauro" mediterranean kitchen restaurant on Friday night (3377 SE Div. St. #106). It's located in a neighborhood. Cool. One of The BEST restaurants that I've eaten across the country on my travels. OUTSTANDING. I highly recommend it to anyone visiting Portland. |

| My mom told me that they apparently swam up from coast all the way to bonnivle dam (about 80 miles) from the coast! They have gotten into the fish ladders, and are picking off the salmon quite easilly. I think its funny that they swam all that way up river, but if the food is there you cant blame them. Theres not really any solution to the problem. Would be nice if some Great Whites came in and thinned out the local populations on the coast. As far as fishing goes all they can do is either move, or deal with them stealing your catch. I never fished on the coast so I never really had any problems with them. Jason Slocum |

They had a problem with sealions eating a rare run of steelhead at the Ballard Locks in Seattle and tried noisemakers, relocating them etc. It is a shame as I think that run no longer exists mainly to habitat loss and those pesky sealions. I am sure they really can't kill them as some of them might be on the endangered list as well. It would be like shooting bald eagles to save them from eating steelhead I guess.
There has been talk of dismantling those dams along the Columbia but so much industry uses the deeper water for barges and hydroelectric power those dams provide that no politicians can take that stance due to economics. Some of the sockeyes and other salmon that used to go all the way to Idaho became extinct. I think there is a river in Idaho called the Salmon River that no longer has any Salmon in it.
That's a tough balancing act with all of those farmers in Eastern Washington and Oregon that use water from the Columbia and Yakima Rivers for irrigating desert lands in those areas. |
