What a difference a day makes. Water looked better, not quite there but gettin close, 1-2 ft surf, weed was minimal, sandy green. Too bad the wind and waves are forecasted to strengthen. Saw a lot of bait today. Must have picked a good hole, hammered the reds on cut mullet. I’m not much of a bait fisher but it was anything but boring this afternoon. Reds hit the cut mullet before I could get back to the sand a couple times. I think 8 were landed in 2 hours, lots of hardheads too but I didn’t kill any, still pissed about what I saw yesterday. 2 rods were more than I could keep up with, 3rd rod never got wet. Had big cut whiting chunks way out on the long rod but nobody was interested. Only shark was a bonnet nosed pup. Not a shark guy, I think that’s what it was. The reds were 24-32 I guesstimate, all very skinny tho. Their bodies looked hungry, probably how I managed to catch them. Kept 1 unlucky semi fat one that is half shelled & slow cookin on the grill right now, lookin forward to it.
Action slowed big time around dusk so I started filleting the unlucky red and a couple whiting appetizers that I’m munchin on now. I left the rods out while cleaning the fish. Reeled the long rod in with the cut whiting still intact. Pulled the short rod in and lo and behold another treasure.
Gimme a stack of Bibles, lie detector test, whatever you wish…… I swear guys I ain’t makin these “fish stories” up, wish I were that creative. The short rod came up with a tiny whiting (nowhere near Skipper class dammit) and a pair of sunglasses, little weed that I pulled off the weight for the photo. Never touched the shades, that's how it came up. Little whiting looked like it was trying to put them on. Elton John ain’t got nothin on this whiting.
Tyler has taught me some cool stuff but I’m not by any means a good fisherman. This kinda stuff that keeps happening is getting me a little concerned. I may start chartering. You probably won’t catch much but it’s getting to where I can almost guarantee something hilarious will be caught. My fee is $5, free if you bring beer.

Shadow,
Rob is fishing from the other side up from South Padre Island and up to the Mansfield Jetty. Looks like they have more neat stuff to catch, TV VCR combos, Sunglasses, and Mardi Gras beads. |

| Probably about 73 miles down for you Shadow. You are gonna have to really get your speed up to jump the Mansfield cut tho. I don't mind giving my location away. Few people fish the surf down here and that hole may not have a fish in it or it may be gone today. Most laugh at me as they haul arse by on the way to the jetties and that's fine with me. |
