Cool pics...water looks nice in those pics!
Any idea if it's a rock jetty, or a concrete jetty system?
Just curious, hard to tell in those pics.
I bet it will bring some fish in though..

There were massive barge loads of granite slabs (huge) that were transported and put into place at the Packery. Additionally, I believe some gravel was put into place as well.
If anyone has any suggestions on what amenities that area should have for fishing families, please post up and I'll convey that to the City.
- Trash cans
- Public rest rooms
- Wash/cleanup stand
- Benches
- Lighting
- How about holes in the granite to put fishing poles in?
Thanks. _________________ Live To Fish Tomorrow... Fish To Live Today

|
|
The jetties have centers and bottoms full of limestone chunks up to about a foot in diameter, with much larger granite blocks on each side and, eventually, capping the lot. This is sort of SOP for jetty design on our coast. I don't recall if there are plans to pour a smooth concrete walkway or put rails on top.
However, it's a crying shame what they plan to do for a new boat ramp. As just approved by the CC City Council, it would be tucked up against the bridge approach on the north side of the pass, insuring that no one coming under the bridge will see the boats backing out of it until the last second. Worst still, even knowing that won't help at times because the studies done for the project predict that on an outgoing tide and with a north wind blowing there will be 4-knot currents in the narrow bottleneck beneath the bridge. Anyone trying to manuever through the narrow gap at those times will have to rev the motor to keep steerage, and thus will going too fast to safely dodge the ramp traffic. To top everything else, the ramp is designed crosswise to the prevailing southeast wind, making it tough to use most of the time.
I've tried to get the Corps of Engineers, David Sikes, and his editors to do or at least write something about the poor location, and even suggested they take the half million dollars budgeted down to the other end of Packery Channnel, where it could be better spent improving the two existing ramps and paving a big parking area beneath the Intracoastal bridge. Nothing happened, so today I sent the same message to the City Manager. It's not too late to change from the proposed site, the use of which the newspaper and TV say will extend the completion date of the reopening another month. |

| When it's open, Packery Channel separates Mustang Island from Padre Island. |
