Well, I got my Suburban's fuel pump fixed up in Austin when I was stuck up there after it broke on I35 near down town. Brought some tears to my eyes after the chevy dealership told me how much $$$.

Well, I was a hostage and had to get the plastic out to get it fixed and back home. That was Wed. After spending that mucho mega bucks, I thought at least I should give it a wash & shine today. Thereafter, I took it to Sears to get the tires rotated. Dawg gone.... they told me I had a thin nail just 1-2" from the tire tread on the "side wall." They said it's non-reparable and started hinting that I needed to get another tire. Since lack of bucks, I told them to put my spare on.

I really can't afford to buy a new tire if I can repair mine. Has anyone used those self sealing gook to take care of a very thin (needle like) hole that's not on the tire tread part?

If so, was it successful? Do you recommend that I just go get a new tire? I have my Twins' safety to worry about if repairing and driving it is risky. Man, my only plastic is melting. Any suggestions, appreciated anglers!

10-4 .... out.

I have put tubes in mine before and wore the tires out and the hole in mine was a lot bigger than a needle size. But that is my way I just know it worked for me. I had to have it rebalanced but that was about it.

Pull the nail out and see if it leaks. It may not have gone all the way thru. Very Happy

a good tire shop will fix it anyway. they can put a boot if it is real bad or just patch it up just because it is on the sidewall doesn't mean nothing especialy if it is a pin prick.

Get warranties from Discount Tire on all of your new tires and that would have been replaced for free.

When I put 4 Michellin LTX on originally, the kerchunk $$$ cost told me to skip the additional warranty purchase... my std. operating procedure... no add'l warranty purchase. I wish I had. I believe the tires have some road hazard warranty - prorated. I'll have to check with Discount Tires.

Thanks!

Rabbit, I pulled the pin out and whosssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhhh came out the air.

Grind down the inside where the puncture is & put a tube in it & you'll be safe. Wouldnt trust a "patch job" on any side wall.

I realize you have your children to be concerned about, but I have had a standard do it yourself plug very high in the sidewall of one of my tires (bfg m/t) for about 30,000 and have not had a single problem. If they came from discount you should be ok though, I know our local discount (Victoria) is great about repairing or replacing tires they sold. Does the store in your area fix any flat for free, ours will fix any flat, regardless of where the tire was bought, for free. They even gave my wife a free spare one time when she pulled in with a large gash in the side of the tire. It was a used tire but still, free tire mounted and balanced. Cant beat that. Hope it works out for you, if not, I have some good 16" tires I will give you. bfg a/t's with about 70% tread left. Good luck

Thanks to all! Thanks Vern for the generous and kind hearted offer.

It seemed like if was pouring, but my Twins are happy, healthy, strong, and learning to be smarter! (I hope all of your kids are also!) Hehehe, I want my Twins to grow up much SMARTER than their daddy. Laughing So, with that said, Life's gotta be GREAT. They haven't been in the Suburban when it hit the fan. Hehehe.

I took it to Discount Tire yesterday. It turned out that the Michellin LTX M/S that I originally purchased to replace the Bridgestone's had road hazard factory warranties. So, they measured the remaining tread to prorate the warranty. Phewwww, so I got some good credit $ from that tire. The new one cost me, but not as much as a full priced LTX. That made my day! Good thing I regularly have the tires rotated. At least, I try to remember to do that.

I"m nearing 100,000 (97,500) on my '01 Suburban. So, I just went and got my first Chilton auto repair book at O'Reilly's. Now, I guess I have to save up to buy some more tools. Let's see: tools or fishing equipment? Hehehe. Laughing Gotta buy Twins' birthday presents first!

Man, the many people who use Tyler's message board is something else! Too good!

Thanks TERRIFIC Anglers! You pump me up and want to fish more.

Take your truck to a small used tire business. They will tube it or patch it as is needed. I have a place in East Austin that fixes flats in less han 10 minutes for $5. If they can't do it, they will have a cheap spare for you.
