How's the surf?
How's inland waters?
I managed to get out last night for about 3 hrs on the Laguna flats. Stopped at CosWay Pier to get bait. Chad mentioned that several oversized "uglies" were caught. Couple were thrown in the back of a big Dodge Ram by a fisherman. (I guess that person doesn't respect the law and sportsmenship while others do!)
Got away from the piers and shot for the flats. I managed to catch some short naps in between checking the hooks for bait. The water was nearly a mirror. Some light fog also came in. After about an hour, I caught a fighter 22" whiskered Black Drum. It jumped and flapped all the way in and then some. In the beginning, my line didn't go off and my rod didn't bend. That Drum must have been quietly working to get itself off the hook. I thought about keeping it to give to an associate at work, but after a while I thought about how terrific of a fighter that Drum was. So, I revived the fish and had an aquarium of my own for a while observing the fish's recovery. After about 15-20 minutes, I got the Drum back to ~40% energized self. I had to force it to go towards the deeper waters. I would have been bummed if it didn't live. But it did to fight another wonderful night!

OsoBluffer,
Now you know that you'll need to follow me in the yak or truck.
Let's hit it hard this weekend nights. I'm looking for that 26" RedFish that'll be pissed off and give me a great fight. I just may keep it. Nah, I'll probably releaes that one. I'd sure like to get a Bull Red to pull me in the water too and play on my 15 lb. line. Thank God for dreams. |

Wow, a 48" Red on a 10 lb line. That must have taken a while! Every turn of the reel handle must have been heart thumping!
EXCELLENT job. I see from the year that you caught it that it comes around once in a while, especially when one lives away from the waters.
Good luck catching another one! |

To go hunting for that rascally rabbit! You must have been in the "tent" or sleeping in the truck when I called. Just checking to see that you weren't stuck in the tent. |
