|
|
| while out at the kleberg county line sunday a group of guys surfing were moving down the beach in the water and they ran up on my fishing lines. they just kept on surfing like the lines weren't there. they bumped them a few times and even landed on it one time sending my clicker off. gave them some ugly stares, but didn't seem to bother them. out of all the miles of beach to surf they had to surf on top of my little 15 ft stretch. there was like 100 yds between me and the next guy fishing, but they were surfing right on top of my lines. one guy even went between my two setups. just wonder if any of you other guys has experienced this problem before. |

Not that I am trying to take up for these kooks jacking with your lines........I would have to say that this is not the norm. While surfing, you want nothing to do with fishing rigs, talk about a dangerous combination.
Cheers,

Next time it happens, call the TPWD law enforcement guys, and take pictures if you can of the clowns doing it and of their car licence plates. Just showing them the camera may be enough for them to get the picture.
Interfering with someone fishing is a violation of state law, but it's tough to document and tougher to enforce. If someone does it to you with a boat, jet ski, sail surfboard or the like, photograph and report. Make the case often enough, and see that the news media are aware of it while you're at it, and maybe the prosecuters and judges will think more seriously about fining the violators and confiscating their equipment. |

| I'm with Vern on this one. I've been aggrevated a few times on the Bob Hall because of these idiots. Sometimes life deals some hard lessons...and lead is pretty hard...Pebster |

| lol. yeah they were in close casting distance. what i didn't get was the surf was almost non existant. it was smooth on sunday, but they were trying to surf it anyway. The one place there were a lot of surfers that never bothered anybody was at fish pass. they stay clear of all the fisherman and don't goof around like these guys were. a better class of surfers i guess. |

| Sorry Vern and Pebster, much as the image is tempting, it's a no-win situation if somebody gets hurt, even accidently, because the group of bums would swear, and back each other up, that they were assaulted. Maybe they were "fishing" for an injury or damage to a board so they could sue. 'Course, if I were on a jury considering such a case I wouldn't believe 'em, but why even take the chance that's what they were up to? am3's description of the group just happening to surf and stay where the lines were seems mighty suspicious. It's so similar to the "swoop and squat" scam used to cause car accidents and shake down the unsuspecting drivers over exaggerated or faked injuries. Even if it isn't a scam, do us all a favor: take my advice and snap their mugs for the TPWD and the judge in case them make a habit of this. |

I agree with Johnny here again. Even if you won the suit in the end, you still lost time and lots of money to defend yourself in court. Go the safe route and snap a picture or video them, and then report them.
On another note, one when fishing Bob Hall, me and Tiff were set up on the end at the right next to a man and his 19 year old son. There were a bunch of surfers right up against the pylons. The boy said he was trying to hook one of them surfers. He said he wanted to land the girl surfing out there and take her home as a trophy! _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

| I know Johnny, I was just kidding about the target practice, even though I promise the thought would be with me I would never act on it. Your suggestion is by far the right thing to do. I need to brush up on my rules and regs. I totally forgot about the law pertaining to fishing interference. |

A couple of years ago we were shark fishing near the Fishpass jetties and for quite a while the surfers stayed in one spot and we ran our lines away from them. Eventually one surfer strayed from the pack and managed to get tangled into one of my lines for a few moments. It was a bummer though cause she was a real nice hottie surfer and I thought I was going to get to reel her in, LOL. Not sure how she got tangled with the line being so tight but for about 15-20 seconds she was connected to my line, actually I just thought of something, maybe her board and ankle leash went under my line or something. _________________

Wasn't there a big controversy in the early 90's,mabe 80's,over the right to fish or surf at Bob Hall? I remember it was big time. _________________ Live to fish.Fish to live! |

I hear surfers make excellent White and Mako bait?
I've yet to run into the surfer interference problem...but I'm sure it will happen. The shrimp boats cause problems also. |

They need to stay near the pier, cant see why they would want to surf farther down. Musta been rookie surfers with no sense. _________________ Fish hard, fish the Bluff. Surrounded by water!

| A couple of years ago a guy was wade fishing near BHP and a surfer paddled right up to him, snatched his rod and snapped it in half. It ended up on the beach with a knife being pulled and the cops being called. I think the surfers get pressured when there are too many fishermen around the pier as they need it for a reference. |
