|

For those of us who are fishing addicts, please take a name tag and have a seat. I'd like to solicit advice from those who change jobs or even careers and, perhaps, even workday schedules to have fishing days included. For example, I am always wanting to have a job that I work Saturday-Wednesday so that I'd have Thursday and Friday off. This would mean that I would have entire fishing areas with few -- if any -- others around me hogging the hole. But choosing such a schedule would not give me free time to be hangin' with fishing buds who work M-F.
Sure, a school teacher job would be great...Work nine months (or slightly more) then have the summer off...My cousin wants me to work out on Alaskan fishing boats, wherein a crew member makes upwards of $1500/week (sometimes more) during peak season. Sure, it would be nice to work a few, if not several, months a year there then spend four months at a time fishing down here in the Gulf!
Anyone else have this problem? _________________ "I just got a new fly-fishing rod and reel for my wife. It was the best trade I've ever made!" |

"Uh, honey. With you so interested in women's rights and all, how about you working and I staying home with the kids? I have this idea, a great idea. Not just any ole plain one but the greatest. Just imagine, I can rock the baby to sleep if I place the cradle in the wade gut and let the gentle water rock her." ...I don't think that line is gonna work!
Mando -- I'd be glad to reincarnate as a big Blue crab. My job would be to hunt down fish in order to survive! I guess one can have bait and eat it too, to put a spin on the popular cake expression. _________________ "I just got a new fly-fishing rod and reel for my wife. You could get a job like mine, I only work 6 months out of the year, even if it is 7 days on and 7 days off, it is still 6 months out of 12. |

I sometimes miss working offshore 7 on and 7 off. But my currently company treats me better. Plus my home and my work truck combine to make up my office (whether I'm home, fishing, whatever).
It bites being on call 24/7, but when I'm not on a call I'm free to do whatever I want as long as I can be on the road within an hour of receiving a call.
I guess you could always get really good at fishing and become a guide. That would be a dream come true for many. _________________ Chad Landry

As much as I love to fish..........man, talk about a tough way to make a living. It isn't just you and your buds out fishing, having a killer day on the water. More often than not, you are having to deal with "joe-dill-weed" who does nothing more than ruin your day.
The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Cheers,

Being a guide would make a great thing a .....errr.....job? I'd rather win the lotto and just fish all the time. Fnck the job! LOL!..........Kyle
As I've said before, right now I've gone back to school to become a realestate inspector. Talk about a swingin job! Just inspect a few houses a week, before friday, ofcourse. Then fish for three days straight, LOL! Mondays don't start untill 12 noon....I can't wait!
Ps, this is why I can't fish THIS year, but it'll be worth it. _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |

waverider -- I am not sure how long I will be down on the coast. I know it is very, very tempting to remain down here after having missed it for 18 years. But something within me is still wanting to return back to the Denton-Lewisiville-Grapevine areas of Dallas. I know what kind of company I'd like to start up, how many hours to work, and how much time off I'd like to party and fish. Living down here just south of Houston I have yet found the good, or great, night clubs that I so missed from up north (especiallythe ones in Deep Ellum). Perhaps that day is coming.
Do you occassionally make trips down south to fish the Gulf? If so, do you know of other people who do the same? I ask because it would be cool to have some type of caravan going down south, and to be around other Dallasites fishing down here.
Kyle -- LOL...You are a riot, so to speak! I have heard about the Real Estate industry is glutted with too many realtors. Is this true? Let us know how it works sometime. I'm sure others, especially the younger folks, wouldn't mind finding more information on a potential career. Just think, if the young ones find out your secret(s) to a good job, they might muscle you out of it and you could enjoy fishing any time of the week! Otherwise, while you are working they are reading about your secret spots online and fishing the heck out of 'em! Either way, you can't lose! _________________ "I just got a new fly-fishing rod and reel for my wife. It was the best trade I've ever made!" |

Hey Crab, I'm not gonna be a realator(can't even spell it, LOL), I'm getting an Inspector liscense. I don't sell, I look, report, and collect money. I can tell you why your electric bill is off the charts, why your son is constantly sneezing(mold), and where the trout are , He He.............Kyle
Oh yeah, BTW, As of 01/01/05, it takes 3 times the amount of school hours just to be eligable to take the exam. I squeaked in a week early. Ofcourse, I also have a degree in the subject, and 30yrs experience, so I'm not too worried. I also got a plan(shhhhh!)
LOL! Thanks Crab _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |
