| Are breakaway rods worth the 300? What about G Loomis and St. Croix. I have a 10ft tsunami and it cast awesome. Thinking about either 11'9 or 12'3 Breakaway with Penn 555gs. Need advice. Theres also the Tica and Beach Runner. Thank you |

| I have one of each. I like the tsunami with the 525, I also put a 525 on my 11' tica and love it better than the tsunami. I put a 525 on my 10'6" brekaway and like it just fine but the 11'9" is the better breakaway-I have it paired with a sealine 40shv or hsv or whatever it is. The tica 11 and the brekaway 11 are my favorites. Ticas break quite often though. Just my input! |

Go to the long distance contests the sfcci hold every year and you won't see much other than Breakaway rods. The English guys might have a Zziplex or Conoflex, and ya might see old Gundoctor out there with an Oceanmaster, but those are quite a bit more than Breakaway(not the Oceanmaster, they are cheap). I have an 11'9" and two 13'2"(the factory cuts theirs down to 12'6") Breakaway 2p/1pc blanks that I'm going to build and sell very soon. If ya want one to your specs, let me know. Otherwise, I will build them and put them in the classifieds. Either way, they will look better and be better built rods than factory. I use better guides, better grip, and better everything. All for the same price as stock. I got out of the rodbuilding business a while back, but I need to clear out some inventory and make way for some new rods for myself..............Kyle
I also leave mine at 13'2", unless requested not to. I like the longer rod. _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |

that 11'9 is one bad rod! id say its worth the 3bills even though i didnt pay the 3bills
i also got a 10'6 tica and its a bit flimsy compared to the breakaway...i guess u cant really compare the two.
damn repo u got some bada$ setups there!
kyle, i really want one of your rods but idk when ill get that cash |

Fishbone,
I've got the 11'9" and I love it. I always pick it up before I pick up my 12' Tsunami. You'll get better distance if you put a smaller reel on it, either the Penn 525gs, Diawa SHV30 or Diawa Grandwave 30.
I've got a St. Croix trout rod that I really like but the wraps have turned color after about three years. IMO the G Loomis are overpriced as you are paying a lot for the name. I'm sure they are good quality rods however. |

GLoomis are over priced because of their name, definately, but they are over priced for the preformance mainly. I bet a $110- 12' Oceanmaster, will cast as good as the Loomis, or better.............Kyle _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |

| I really didnt want to use such a small reel. I want this setup mainly for bull reds and drum and also medium size sharks about up to 6' or so. Thats why i chose the 555. I was also looking at the garcia BG 10000. What about the 12'6". Its a little more but i think it might do the job. |

| those daiwa 30shv reels can handle reds and drum fine. 6' sharks too if ya keep in front of the fish and hope u dont get spooled. i went with a 545 for the extra line and it was cheap (wish i got a 555) lots of people have 555gs reels and u never really hear a complaint about em. those bg10000 are pretty new, dont know much about em. |

Im in the same boat as Mando, wish I would have gotten a 555, but the 545 was right on the $$$$. You made a wise choice IMHO by going with the 555 rather than a BG 10000. Dont get me wrong, I love abu reels, but after having a 545 and casting it, the design is much better than an abu. Just my 2 cents. |

I caught plenty of sharks and reds on my 525mag. If you're just looking for sharks under 5', stick with a 525mag. I upgraded to a few 555gs's with 600yds of 50# PP on them and they are no different than a 6/0 with 50# mono. Same drag, same yardage. Much easier to handle too..........Kyle
After the 1st of my only 2 trips to BHP, a kid named surfboy came up to me and asked why I had such small reels( a 525 and 535). I caught about 18-20 bull reds, and a couple a spinners that day/night. I told him that I didn't need a bigger reel. Nobody on the pier caught more than 5 decent fish that day, I caught over 20. I'm sure the girls have told you this, it's not the size, but how you use it, LOL! Ofcourse, the girls never said that to me,LOL!...............Kyle
If you got the meaning, you get the drift. A 6' shark can't win a battle with a 525, if ya know how to use it. _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |

If your choice is between a 545 and a 555, get the 555 because it's the same diameter and you can cast it just as far. yet, it holds more line.(Ihave both)..........Kyle _________________ I fish, therefore, I am................Happy! |

Hey Kyle - they (women) may say its not the size but how you use it, but it takes a long time to cross the Atlantic in a row boat. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
