I missed out on some mullet yesterday with the castnet because my rope wasn't long enough. (OK, someone here needs to say "I told you so".)

I had tried tying an extra length of rope to the original, but I didn't like the way the attachment point wanted to catch on everything.

I'm sure just tying a knot to the castnet will also cause problems.

So I'm stuck needing to learn to make an eye in a rope so as to avoid anything else that can catch on the net when I throw it.

There is an address that shows you how. It looks a lot harder than it is if you mess around with it you will get it.

Thanks for the link, Jerry. I've added it to my favorites.

Vern, this was Wednesday evening down at the Packery Channel by the bridge. I guess you might call that the Packery Flats. The water was "bubbling" with activity, and every now and then one would jump. I couldn't get close enough, and my castnet fell just short of the commotion.

Shortly afterward, the water temperature in the shallows started taking a dive again.

We waded along the canal, and my partner caught a few dink trout on live shrimp, and some mullet would still break the surface occasionally nearer the canal.
