Well, I need to learn more surf fishing. Been out there twice. Planning on trying again, and hopefully again and again with the kids.

Since learning about the "Guts" via an earlier question, I think I need to chunk my line way out as possible... to the second gut where ever I believe it may be. Not experienced enough to eyeball yet where all the surf is breaking and sand bars are located other the one that I'm standing on the beach. Laughing Maybe because I haven't seen clear enough water yet too. Rolling Eyes

I just got a 12' Tsunami (spelling) spinning surf rod: 2 piece. Seemed like a good rod. Lifted it up, shook it around some, practiced casting backwards and forwards, and hit the ceiling several times. The price was comparable to Tica. Half the price of the AllStar Breakaway and St. Croix. Good enough, right? Anyone else got these Tsunami rods and have good things to speak of? Bad things?

Saw you question earlier. Check out microsoft terra server. You can zoom in on PINS and see the wade gut out to the first bar(wave breaking nearest to shore), second gut, second bar, 3rd gut. If you see 3 rows of breakers the farthest out is the 3rd bar.

I like it. I have caught a few pompano and a redfish on it. Mine has a diawa 20 on it. It casts as good for me as the tica that I have with a 535.

Cricket, if you go to the following link you will see an ariel photo of redfish bay. You can move the map as you want to the area you want to zoom in on. The link is:

no spaces or caps.

I have a 10' Tsunami spinning rod in 3-6 oz and like it. I have caught several bull reds, speckled trout, a few stripers and a 4'-7" blacktip on it so far. I usually exceed its rating when casting it but it has held up. I have an Okuma Eclipz EZ-90 on it and for surf combo right around $120.00, it has been great. Have dunked the Okuma several times and so far, the only maint. I have done on it has been fresh water rinses. For the price, the rod and the reel are good deals in my opinion. (rod $59.99 at Academy and the reel, $63.49 online and free shipping)
