Great site

Me and a few friends are headed to SPI for a few days this week. Just looking for some info on what fish are in the surf. From the reports I can tell pompano are in the surf. But I have not read much about jacks. Are they running the beach right now and are any birds working the bait. How is the driving. Thanks for any info, just want a small game plan before I hit the beach.

My first post! The sand is not bad for the first 300 yards that I drove.
Rat Red in the first line, bunch a baby bait stealers.
I did catch my first keeper red in the Surf!

I am awe of you guys. I chased the red fish for three year in the bays with a fly rod and with you help, I got one.

yesterday afternoon.driving good to the 17,fair to the 22 , sucked to the 27 , fair to the 30 , good to the 55 , fair to the jetty and vice versa Laughing

Pomps when the water was green and you could reach past the 2nd bar , scattered reds , macs at the jetty. Didn't fish til the 30mm.

Tyler bout summed it up. Driving is good. The #6 Access can get pretty soft & is right now. Haven't been a lot lately but there are plenty of people the last couple times I've gone, well past 6 miles up from the 6 access.

Thanks for the info, all of us have 4x4 so the driving should not be a problem. Mostly fish the upper coast, start fishing PINS and SPI in the winter. I can handed the crowds, use to them. We will be targeting sharks, but will yak fish some also. Like to catch jacks out of yaks.

I'm one of the friends that will be with Jolly Roger this weekend. Does anyone know the mileage from Access 6 to the Jetties? I was down there over Labor Day and I think I went about 12 or 15 miles past #6 but I didn't keep track on the odometer. The beach only had scattered fisherman every mile or so up that far at that time. Do you think it will be more crowded than that up that far this weekend? Have any tarpon been sighted? They were thick over Labor day in certain areas.

It's about 25-27 miles past access 6, can't remember. No, there usually aren't many people at all up that far. Saw Tarpon out past the 3rd bar last week but none in close for a while.

I have one more question. I will be getting in after dark tomorrow evening and was wondering if there are any lighted piers or docks on the island side I could fish off of or throw the cast net off of to try and catch some bait for the morning? Not interested in any pay places but if that is all I have, then???

Sea Ranch is to the right after you get off the bridge but that's the only one I know of and it's for a fee. There may be one or two heading north, I don't know. Fisherman's Wharf may have one but I don't think so. Any of the bait shops will probably have better info. Fortunately I just go to a friend's when I get the urge to fish the lights.

Hopefully the waves won't be as big as the forecast. Friday looks awesome right now though. Wish I were going to be here, would come by & say hello Friday. 12 miles from access 6 the dunes are pretty tall & get real close to the water. There is very good structure from there to 14 or 15. Had most of my luck from 12-16 but don't haul arse straight 12 miles up, look all the way to the jetty and also on the jetty, you never know. I'm no expert by any means, just my take. Even with the pretty big surf we have had lately the water was still very clear Sunday.

Supposed to cool down late tonight, hopefully the water temp will drop a bit for you guys. Haven't been that much lately because it's been so warm. Hooked a jack for a few seconds last week but that's it. You will find some if you hunt hard, cold front should make it easier. That's about all I've got.

I would fish the SPI jetties first light through morning if tides not too high. You can see schools of pomps cruising the jetties mid way down. Good size snapper can be caught on the channel side. There is a nice size lighted pier on the PI side just before you cross the bridge right next to the light house. I would pitch some live bait under the Sea Ranch dock/walkway closest to the entrance to the pier at night. There are a few big snook hiding there.
