I too favor road hunting over long rodding but it is awfully hard to catch pompano on the short rod tossing lures at em.
I like all kinds of fishing. As a matter of fact you can road hunt and long rod fish. If I don't have a massive amount of folks and gear, I will just pick up the rod holders and chairs and move to the next spot after 30 to 45 minutes with no action.
Other times I do get bored watching the rods so I will do some plugging with the trout rods in view of the long rods.
To each his own. I like all types of fishing even watching a bobber off of a dock waiting for a bluegill to hit. If you have light enough gear that can be fun.
My soon to be 86 yr old dad moved down here and fishes with me now and he can't do the road hunt thing but this day we all limited out on reds and Spur caught and released this tarpon on one of those boring long surf rods.

Now cracker, you knew you were going to stir up some fire ants. You must have gotten antsy.
I wade-yak and pier fish mostly when I get to fish on a limited occasion. I appreciate surf fishers with those 12+ feet rods. Pretty cool seeing their equipment roaming down the road and set on the beaches. It requires technique and knowlede that I can tell. Yup, it's throwing out the bait and waiting, but that sounds like what you're doing also... except you're merely hop scotching looking for the fish (luck too) rather than waiting for the prize catches.
Try some Red tail tracking and sight casting and let us know how you do if you want to test your skills as a fisherman/fisherwoman/fisherkid.
Bottom line, all types of hook and rod has its techniques. Some people are just a little more knowledgeable than others. I try to learn from those who have fished a life time and those who are hard core fishers... they know what they're doing! They have wonderful fish stories too! Charlie Golla got it right!

Cracker is clearly some newbie or "internet fisherman" simply trolling for adversity. He is best ignored.
Golla said it best. (Let's see Cracker catch a nice shark on a spooner like Charlie did this week.)
One more thing Cracker--generally speaking most everybody knows everybody on a personal level and nobody knows you. |

| I'm with Rabbit on this one. Pack it all and then adjust your game plan as the day plays out. I've fished both ways and have to say as long as I am out there fishing the number of fish in the box is a very small part of trip. I thank God that I live so close to the water and that I am able to enjoy this precious gift. |

im too busy when fishing the long rods to be borred.
current, seaweed, bait stealers keep me busy even though i only run 2 rods. i dont know why, but i luv seeing the big rods bend half over in there holders with the clicker screaming at you. its not as simple as "sit and wait" like in the bay/lake.
all i can say is ur missing out! |

Was this a class assignment for the "group dynamics" chapter of your Psychology 101 class or the chapter on BF Skinner? |

I prefer to view Cracker as someone looking for input as to the most effective method of fishing the beach.
My method of fishing depends primarily on whether or not the kids are in tow! Whatever the method, a bad day fishing is better than a good day in the office.
I also second Mr. Golla's post, however, I often have trouble deciphering upon which stage I reside. I blame it on not fishing often enough as a youth. I'm doing my best to avoid the resultant problems with my own children. |

Come on, guys. Some of ya need to be a bit more honest! When I see long rods in holders and the guy sitting in a lounge chair, I often notice there are many empty Bud Light cans littered around him. You'd be too drunk to drive down the beach to chase fish! And how often have you repeated to yourselves, "Wait. One more beer and we'll check our rods!" ...And when you and your buddy finish pounding one off, it's almost always, "wait, let's have another!"
(And you know when you are really, really trashed is when, there are birds working the water a mere 50 feet either side of you and you can't even find your bait because the birds spent the past 30 minutes eating it from the back of your pick-up!) _________________ "I just got a new fly-fishing rod and reel for my wife. It was the best trade I've ever made!" |

So all long rodders are lazy alcoholics too??
Maybe we should take up golf or something. |

No long rodders?
No beer?
Guy could be doing a lot worse. I'd rather a guy be on the beach relaxing with his long rod out and drinking a cool one minding his business, clearing his mind, and enjoying peace on earth.
