Bonita come within the beach at PINs in spring and in winter. Blackfin have been caught at the end of the jetties at Port A, Manisfield in spring and winter. Yellowfin have been known to follow shrimpers culling catch to water depth as little as 180-ft. South and Baker are typical closest tuna areas out of Port A.

One fresh yellowfin that had been hit by a big shark was found washed up at PINS one winter - who knows how close that fish was in too the beach. But when big makos (that typically feed on Tuna) are caught off the beach in winter there - who knows?

I think there were bonito working off the krill coming out of Mansfield March 16th, 2003. Capt. Billy got several clients hooked up on bonito if I remember right.

One guy told me down south he hooked a yellowfin back behind the brazos santiago jetties down south. It kept circling and circling his boat. I bet it was a jackfish and he did not know the difference. Never Know.

I ran into some tourist fishermen down at Bigshell a while back, both of whom were dragging some monster jacks down the beach to their truck, both of whom also had the widest of smiles on their faces. I pulled over and asked them what they had got them on, and they yelled "I can't believe there are yellowfin Tuna in the surf! Those people on Corpusfishing.com were right, this is the place to fish in Texas!!!"

I was tempted to congradulate them on their "tuna" but I had to break the news to them. Their wide smiles were soured a little, but they were still pumped to have caught such big fish on their first trip down the beach. It took a long time to convince them that those fish weren't tuna, and even longer to convince them to donate the jacks to me.

I think it was old Stanley aka Rutro who said he saw it and that it was around 5 feet long. If I remember correctly it was not shark bit which got me to thinking that if it did die it had to die close to shore.

Most every year in Nov and Dec the tuna follow the shrimp boats within 10 miles of Port A, which means that they could possibly be near the beach now and then. Good luck..............Kyle
