Well, it must be getting closer cause' my phone is incessently ringing
off the hook. Tyler and I are both receiving a larger than normal amount of
phone calls and e-mails so MAYBE that is a positive sign. I am receiving
lots of inquiries from individuals who are willing to pull trailers IF
someone furnishes them as these individuals do not have trailers themselves.
I had considered hustling a rental company for a discounted rate and renting
6 or so trailers myself for volunteers to use in the event as we have never
had enough trailers BUT after deliberation on the matter I have decided
against it. If I or we rent a bunch of trailers they all have to be picked
up in advance of the event, stowed at a location until the event, pulled to
Malaquite the morning of the event, taken to the car wash and cleaned,
returned to a common storage location for the entire weekend and then each
one has to be returned to it's owner. That is actually quite time consuming
for one or two individuals to take care of. Plus there is always the
potential of damaging a trailer during the event. So, we are going to
continue our long term vision of keeping it as simple as possible. We need
trailers and we very deeply appreciate volunteers who have trailers
available bringing them to and using them in the event but we are going to
have to leave it at that. IF 4 wheel drive vehicle operators are willing to
rent trailers on their own to use in the event and will be responsible for
those trailers and their safe return to the rental company in good condition
I will refund the price they pay for the rental. All they have to do is
bring me a copy of the rental receipt on the day of the cleanup. That is
the best I can do. The rentor will also have to be responsible for any
damage done to a rented trailer as the event simply does not have cash
available to pay for damaged equipment. Smaller trailers are more effective
in soft sand than extremely large ones and the large ones often end up being
a problem before conclusion of the event.
After evaluating the trash regularly for some time it has been decided
to have smaller groups of individuals covering each specific area this
year. This is due to the fact that the trash is in a narrow swath on the
western side of the beach due to high tides. Some areas don't have a large
amount of trash. So, we are going to have less people in each group but
more groups in an attempt to get as much country as possible covered to the
south. Wouldn't it be something if we could actually complete the Big Shell
area and get beyond it into the Devil's Elbow for the first time in history.
Thanks to each and every one of you and remember to watch for snakes as it
has been a warm winter. See ya' at the cleanup. Capt. Billy L. Sandifer

Thanks for the update.

Hey Tyler, I am planning to be there to do the event, where do we stand on trailers and vehicles to cart people down the beach? Thanks T.

At this point I think we are okay on trailers however with the number of calls and a couple of boy scout troops particpating I think we are going to need 4x4's with extra room to transport volunteers with no 4x4's down the beach.

Tyler,

I will have my 250 crew set up to taxi people. I can carry a few people in side and in the bed. You can ask the people that follow me, I donot drive fast.

We are trying to spend the night on Friday.

See everyone there

Cliff
