The day before yesterday i was thinkining to myself how fortunate it was that nobody had posted any theft reports lately, then yesterday about noon i was gearing up to kayak to the king ranch shoreline when i noticed someone had stolen the paddle out of the kayak in the backyard. due to the way i had the paddle wedged inside the only way it could be missing is if someone stole it, checked everywhere else inside and out just in case, no luck. Determined to still go fishing i grabbed a wetsuit that i rarely use and took it over too WIND AND WAVE to see if i could get some sort of price break on a paddle. The guy at the store appeared to be disturbed by my situation as well, and on the spot before even looking over the wetsuit traded me a more than decent new paddle for it, even though they are already currently over stocked on wetsuits and the season for purchasing them is rapidly coming to an end. If you read this thanks again, i greatly appreciate it. Finally got in the water at about 3pm and made it to the king ranch shoreline by about 4pm woulda got there quicker but fished around pita island briefly with no luck, upon first cast at king ranch shoreline bobber was sucked under within seconds by a healthy sixteen inch trout my first fish landed from a kayak it was amazing, every cast the bobber rarely set on the water for more than ten seconds before being sucked under almost all were pushing fourteen did get two other keepers a 17.5 and a 19, all fish were RELEASED, at about 5 i ran out of the 50 shrimp i had purchased and decided instead of tossing artificials to head in since the current was moving the opposite way and while being distracted by all the fish i had already drifted much further than planned, the trip back took about 2 hours and was an adventure in itself going against the current, while passing by one particularly shallow point between king ranch and pita island i came up on a large group of tailing redfish the water was really shallow and being almost right next to them was a site i wont be forgetting anytime soon. Also noteworhty of this trip is my first time going to the bait store/boat launch/rv park right there where yorktown meets laguna shores the shop had lots of reasonably priced tackle and gave me about 50 shrimp all in good condition for 8$, i was also told i could park and launch there when i asked about the price i was told that coast guard parks and launches for free, quite convenient i must say. Ive cant believe i lived around the corner from it for about six months now and had never been it is in a really convenient spot a s far as launching goes and the channel takes you right to pita isle or you can follow it the other way and go straight across the laguna to the icw, the guy running the shop is very helfpful and friendly. Needless to say i am hooked on kayak fishing now and am unable to describe just how awesome it is when you reel the fish right up along side you like that. Thanks again to Wind and Wave and Laguna Shores Resort and Marina for helping to make my first "real" kayak fishing trip as incredible as it was.

Glad you had a good time. Sorry about the paddle. What did they charge you at the landing to launch? Very Happy According to your directions you did a lot of extra paddling. Bluff Landing is a lot closer to peta island than the one at York Town and Laguna Shores. Just keep going south on Laguna Shore Rd to the end and then you will see Bluff Landing.

i have actually taken off from a place back there not fishiing though it wasnt bluff landing, it was the place they just remodeled and i do agree it would have been alot shorter of a paddle however this place was practically next door to me and i was able to purchase bait there then park my truck where i dont have to worry about it being messed with, I also wanted to check out some other spots along the way, found a few that should be excellent once it warms up a little more. I dont know what they normally charge to launch but if you are taking off in a kayak i find it highly unlikely they would he would charge more than a buck, i think boats were like 2$

Kyle,
How far do you live from Laguna Shore Village RV Park? Myself and a couple of friends stayed there last April while on a fishing trip with Capt. Joe Mendez. This year we plan on returning the second weekend of March to try are hand at some wade fishing for some big trout, out of kayaks. Would you happen to know what colors and lures work best for that time of the year?

What color/type yak do you have? I yak fish that area also, most of the time I launch at the end of Carribean st off Laguna Shores rd.
May see you out there one day If I havent already.

buzz, i actually live right around the corner from the park, unfortunatley i'm not much of an expert on lures i usually just vary colors on whether its clear or murky i try and go darker in murky water. Ive had the most luck on pumpkin seed chartruese assasins as far as lures go. Lately ive been doing pretty good with llive shrimp on a popping cork.

bluffer- the kayak is a pelican endeavor its yellow, not really ideal for saltwater but it gets the job done, got it from a friend for pretty cheap recently, i doubt you have seen me as i only recently started fishing from a kayak, however you will prob see me sometime since i plan to be out as much as possible, got home today at about 4:45 paddled out to pita island around 5:30 (thanks for the tip rabbit) caught a rather fat 16 inch trout turned around came home and cooked it for supper, was delicous

Well maybe we can get together and do some fishing while I'm down that weekend. Might even try some surf fishing.

Me and my buddies also got our surfboards stolen out of the garage. It sucks because the board prices just went up! Surprised

Hi Kyle, I fish from a pelican as well and really have adapted to it nicely. Fishing Kate's hole in the morning if you or anyone else is interested in joining. Usually do pretty good around the oyster reefs there on top waters and silver spoons EARLY in the am. I have had alot of fun fishing the end of carribean as well. I'll be in a gold f150 supercrew. Red yak.
