Excellent picture! When I worked offshore I always wanted to get a good picture of some dolphins, but they never came out very good.

Once, while on a rig move on an inland barge, we were entering the Mississippi River from main pass in Venice, and I counted 14 dolphins surfin' on the bow surge.

A few weeks ago I was wading in Little Bay and two of them passed within a dozen feet of me. Beautiful animals!

Hey Putawaywet! What kind of camera are you using?

Very nice pic you have there. I recently picked up a Canon S50 and its amazing. I was just curious.

Also, if you have a higher end camera.....what setting did you have it on to take that pic. AUTO or Fast or what?

Trying to get some camera lessons to increase my skills somewhat out in the field. There is some good tutorials online but just curious if anybody here has some experience.

Skip,

In photography, I believe, it's about 33% experience, 33% artistic vision, and 33% timing. Only when you perfect those 3 factors, will the quality of your equipment really make a difference... Here're a few pictures, which I'm personally quite proud of, taken with a fairly old and not very good 2 mega-pixel HP camera -

And here're a few killer-whales thrown in for good measure (this picture actually really needs to be cropped) -

No matter how many times I see dolphins when I'm at the coast they almost always amuse me. One afternoon while wading we had some come within about 10 ft. of us. It was pretty cool Smile , except we stoped catching trout. Evil or Very Mad

Skipjack,
Kostya's got it right except for the remaining 1%,Luck, which was the case here.
I'm switching from a 35mm Nikon to digital. That shot was with a borrowed 3mgp. Canon A70(?).I am borrowing cameras to try them out.Tried a Sony 8 mgp. the week before and am trying a Canon 5mpg. next week.
Want to be sure I can use the new cam. before I spend that kind of dough.
