Yes, there are pompano in the surf, but it's hard to find the right water clarity at this time of year to catch them. Sand fleas work, but are usually difficult to come by. Best all-around bait has to be a combination of Fishn' Strips and peeled shrimp, all stuck on the same 2/0 thin wire circle hook. Shrimp or crab-flavored Fishn' Strips of any color work fine, but be sure to match the temperature on the label with the temperature of the water.
Being an agressive agnostic like Robert Heinlein, I can give what is probably a pragmatic, if not objective, view on political correctness versus Christmas. People have forgotten that the reason the debate arose over what should be displayed in courthouses and taught in schools because this nation's founding fathers chose to declare universal religeous freedom by forbidding the government to establish a state religeon. That means no politician or government employee may promote a particular religeon, or even campaign against all religeons, while conducting government business, but it does not mean that same person cannot practice what he preaches on his or her own time. You may take it that everyone else has even fewer restrictions on the expression of religeon, provided, of course, that they don't also try to get around the injunction against a state religeon by promoting one on government property or with government money.
True political correctness, the kind written into the Bill of Rights, therefore means you must be free to greet anyone you please with Merry Christmas, Happy Hanakkah, etc., even at the courthouse or in the schoolroom. There certainly are no legal prohibitions against what a store manager prints on a window poster or in the newspaper. Some may say that the exercise of these freedoms are commercializing the season's events and are therefore morally incorrect, but you can rest assured the exercise is politically correct. |
