|
|
Next Tuesday, December 20, at 10:00, the Corpus Christi City Council is to consider repealing the ordinance it passed on October 18 to eliminate vehicular traffic in front of the seawall. The agenda states the action may be declared an emergency, and hence could take effect immediately w/o the normal consideration and voting at three regular council meetings.
Guess we won round one.
Don't know when the next round begins. Meanwhile, the beach remains closed due to jetty construction, anyway.
The fight's not over. |

Great news Johnny. Thanks for the report. Just ask a friend to go to Nicks' and sign the petition. He lives in basically Corpus Christi. Wish I could sign the next petition or do you think the City council will streighten up and vote for what the people of Texas would like, that is keeping our beaches as they are. I, for the life of me, cannot understand how such a few people, the Corpus city council, can have so much power as to decide whether all the people of Texas and the USA can drive on our beach. That sort of power of so few just blows my mind.

Its all eventually gonna go thru, to much money involved,,,Just like Packery channel took 20+ yrs but it finally happened & that was the kickoff the developers needed!
How many times did Packery channel get voted down? (twice that I remember) Mid 80s & early 90s.
Even if the proposal gets voted down, they'll still build like Florida out there & in a few years it will be up for vote again (like Packery channel)
Dont mean to sound negative but you can say you saw it here 1st! _________________ Fish hard, fish the Bluff. Surrounded by water!

| We fight the battle because it is right and just, not because we are going to win. This all seems like a false incursion to me. Be ready for the real attack when it comes! Win or lose I will fight. |

Like I said, when we start the new petition we also have recall petitions for ALL council members who voted for it right next to it so people can sign all the petitions we need at one time. _________________ Hardheads should be the state fish of Texas |

| How would we go about contacting the state attorney general about this, they are violating a state law, maybe the state could issue an injuction against the city and developers.Allen |

| If they resubmitt a different closure ordinance it would be the ultimate gerrymandering of our city charters to circumvent the will of the people. At that point it may be a point to take it to the courts. Any Law experts? |

Does www.texasopenbeaches.org know about what going on in our neck of the woods? would they be willing to offer up some advice? Just a thought as most of this is above my head. I appreciate all the hard work most of you are doing keeping some of us abreast on the situation at hand. And to Mr French, keep on buddy we appreaciate your persistance.
Is there anything out of towners can do? There are a ton of San Antonio and Austin folk who call CC a second home. |

yep, I talked to TOBA several times early on, and someone even volunteered to come to and speak to us, but have been unable to contact them since. All my emails have went unreturned. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

| I feel really bad having to ask the same citizens to start signing all over on a similar petition if the next beach closure ordinance includes the seawall, too. I'm sure the time and gas money those folks spent finding and signing it was valuable to them. Just so their contributions to the community weren't wasted, let's ask the City Council to instruct the City Secretary to hold onto all the names and addresses collected for the first petition, and to mail our next petition to them along with City-franked SASEs so the signatories of the first won't have to leave home or spend another penny to sign the second. |

Maybe all the out of towners could get ahold of the Govenor of Texas. Because this effects everybody in the state. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.
