Tyler, what fish did you try over Thanksgiving? From the thread, it could have been pompano, bluefish, or skipjack.
Forget Google; a dictionary will do. Sashimi is thinly-sliced raw fish, not to be confused with ceviche or seviche, which is raw fish marinated in lime juice, or with sushi, which is cold rice flavored with rice vinegar, shaped into rolls and topped with an assortment of stuff, sometimes including sashimi, seaweed, fish roe, etc. |

The best rig I've found for pomps is a 14/0 circle thru the back.
Hell - you could put one of dem pink fishy-bite things on it too, accessorise for success. |

I tried the Pompano raw and I didn't like it. Could have been because I was cleaning them. The texture was a bit odd and I do like sashimi with salmon and or tuna. |

just my two cents worth,I personally caught over thirthy pomps one day by mistake! not the fish but the way they were caught. havent herd of anyone else mention this method, i was at bob hall one day with some friends and i guess the conditions were right clear sunny skies and clear water. when i decided too use some speck rigs in yellow and white colour, did my first cast and let it sink to the bottom. started jiging it up when bam! i had a fish on.brought it in and it was a pomp.so i said to myself nice fish, cast out again and let it sink to the bottem and jig it again and bam doulble hook up! by my 5th fish my friends were asking me what i was useing i said speck rigs which i all ways have in my tackelbox so i gave them some speck rigs and they started catching pomps on every cast too, then four other friends showed up girls that were just learning about fishing and told them to put some speck rigs on and they started catching pomps like crazy! alot of doulble hook ups that day. all i know is that every one of us had plenty of pomps to take home. all were caught on some 50 cent speck rigs. just curious if any one has used this method? Yes, I have heard of that working quite well. The folks in Florida use small jigs orange mostly that have the tails cut flush with the shank of the hook. They call them Pomp jigs. I think Roy's may still have some. They are supposed to work great on the pier but normally we have to cast to far from the shore for that to work in the surf.
Thanks!

I've seen heavy spoons with a fly trailer about 18 inch's back catch pomps from the surf. In the right conditions it works well. _________________ Catch, Release, Catch, Release |
