| Whats the word on Dacron in the surf. I have a 12/0 loaded with 80/lb dacron, was wondering if I should leave it or re-spool it. Thanks. Also, I am sure it has been argued a 100 times but what is better short or long rods for a 12/0 in the surf. Thanks again. |

| Take it off before you become a litterbug. The bars cut it faster than PP. There are many discussions about which line to use but I think all know that Dacron is the worst in the surf due to barcuts. Good luck........Kyle |

| Short rods are better for fighting, but longer rods keep your line out of the first gut , and out of the dead weed zone. Decide this one for yourself...............Kyle |

Drop the dacron. Put down 500 yards of 130# Powerpro on that reel with the top shot all 130# Sufix.
A 12/0 on a long rod is a reel mistake. I would suggest a good Penn Mariner Rod and just replace the tip with a SIC guide. _________________ Ahh sand between my toes! |

| Wanted to make sure it wasn't any good before I hooked into something big. Just hated to waste all the line. Think I'll respool with some 100-130 Andes. Probably get a thick Rod between 6 or 7 ft. Thanks for the help guys. Anybody know if the Red Cajun line is any good? |

Best heavy line is 130# original Stren or Sufix Tritanium. _________________ Ahh sand between my toes! |

| I've been using some of the 12# on a couple of my rigs. So far it's been really good to me. Don't know about their bigger stuff but Flak is right about the Suffix Tritanium being great line. I don't care for the Ande at all. |

I would not remove all the dacron if money is an issue.
If you are fishing the beach, you need something to stand up to the bars and the macks.
1st preference for line color is dark green or another dark color. This way the spanish macs don't shred your line. Clear mono works ok. Bright colors do not work.
White dacron with green specks is mac candy too.
Black dacron works ok. 130 test is really the min for the surf. KCON is right about that lighter dacron.
Suffix tritanium like Flak said is great. Very abrasion resistant. 100 test is better than 80 test. Risk of being broken off is significantly higher than getting spooled. Heavy line will give you a better edge.
Topshots. If you are running lighter line without a topshot, fish with light drag and let the stud make a run and clear the initial bars before you torque him down or he is going to shred your line on the way out and break off. With 100 yards of 150 to 200 test topshots spiced on with 130# black dacron will allow you to fight hard during the last 100 yards of getting him over the bars where the fight gets dirty.
Adding a top swivel float to your leader will keep your line of the bar until the battle starts.
Hope this helps a little.
Good Luck.
