Besides the one reported yesterday, there as another this morning, about 11am. Nathan was out fishing on PINS this morning and was bit by a small blacktip. It tried to swallow his foot, and when he pulled back, its teeth scraped his foot up pretty good.

Two bites in two days. There are alot of those little 3 to 4 foot long blacktips in the surf right now, so be careful. Make sure you are standing in clear water, not on the sandbars were the visibilty is poor. If you see a school of them around you don't take the risk, come back in.

I have been bumped by little ones both times I have been out recently, both times while standing on the second sandbar where it is murky.

Luckily, both bites came from small sharks, but the big ones will cruise the sandbars just the same, and could do alot more damage. I have seen 5 and 6 foot sharks cruising in 6" of water across the bars chasing bait. A five foot blacktip could easily take a foot off, so please be careful!

2 years ago on July 4th weekend I was fooling around in Gin clear water at the waters edge in knee deep water cooling off and casting to the wade gut and a 3-4 ft BT picked up my bait on the way in-in that knee deep water. It was about an hour before sun down when they showed up and scared me and my family out of the water.

I have never witnessed sharks so close to the beach until that incident. They were after the tons of bait in the water. The one that picked up my bait peeled line for about 30 seconds until it's tail slapped the line.

The sharks are there to feed, but not on us. We just in the way.

We are in thier territory for sure. People dont realize the possibility of a bite. I see teenage girls all the time in the water with ankle bracelets or shiny toe rings. That just adds fuel to the fire. It is very unfortunate when someone gets bit and it is a shame that the vast majority of the uneducated population wants to jump out there and blame the shark.

Come on Mr. Bluffer. I been wading the surf since 1954 and have never had a problem. Just use Old Spice after shaving every morning. That is the best Shark repellent and no one hardly knows about it.

Is that Old Spice thing for real or are you joking? Always interested in learning something I didn't know.

Id be more worried about the rays. I stepped on one twice today on the first bar. I was swimming around then I stepped on it, I jumped and came back down on it again! It must of been a big one cause it never moved. I dove off the bar and swam away. Then I sat in the wade gut and got stung by a jelly. Confused Unfortunately my skin reacts pretty bad to jelly stings so it was burning my elbow. I love to swim on the beach but one day im gonna get it!

Old Spice is also known to repel most females younger than 68.

I was out at the back of Mud Island with several people. One of the guys waded back to the boat. The water was off color and we were in about thigh deep water, he had 5 scrapes on the outside of his right calf. the scrapes were superficial but drew blood and he said what ever caused them felt like sandpaper. I know there are some bull sharks in the area.. any ideas has anyone ever experienced this..Cheetah

About 6 years ago I used to be an avid surfer, until one day at the Mustang Island Jetties when it felt like sandpaper go across my leg. The sargasm wasn't bad that year and I flipped out when I saw something that big and that black go right past my leg. I still wade and surf fish, but with more caution considering I got hit twice last year by a lion's mane and a man-o-war. There are so many sting rays out right now, also, that I think I might stick to pier fishing this summer. Man-eating bacteria: always been there, but fishing has become such a fad now that more people are in the water, thus, more getting affected. Just a reminder to know that the ocean is their home where we play, not the other way around.
