|
|
I have been reading this board for a while, thanks all for the good info I have gotten from here. We get to go to PINS a few times a year and this last time I got the shark fishing fever. Since then I have acquired almost everything I need, OK Frenzy, Penn 6/0 HLW, 5 1/2' 80 pound class stand up rod, braid fighting belt, and most of my leader making materials(3/32" coated wire, big swivels, 16/0 and 18/0 hooks, haven't found 400 lb mono for top half of leader yet).
Any way, our next trip we will leave Cisco July 4 at about 2 AM to be at the Dennys on the PINS side of Corpus at breakfast time, and hopefully get our last minute shopping done and be at our campsite by lunch or a little after. We are staying until the 11 or 12th.
My question is about topshot on my reel, it is spooled with 50lb and I wanted to put about 100 yards or so of 80 lb on but all I have right now is a hi viz green color, it seems like I saw a thread at one time that discussed this and said it wasn't a good idea because other toothy fish would strike the line and cut you off. Is this correct or am I just imagining reading this thread.
Thanks

There are a large number of smaller balcktips in the surf right now, so I would stop at Roy's B&T on the way out and pick some up. I bet he's got your 400lb mono too.

if you are worried about the line being to visible to fish just put a bigger top shot on your reel. Strip a little bit more of the green off... and put down maybe 200 yards of a clear topshot. Not all your line will be in the water..... if you yak your baits out 200 yards.... only about 100 yards of that will actually be in the water. Roys will have the mono you need 4sure. But if you cant get any in time... just make them all cable and u should be fine. _________________ admit to nothing and deny everything |

Ya'll are awesome, I certainly intend to stop at Roy's on the way to PINS, hopefully I can find something to finish my leaders before I head out. I always stop at Roy's anyway because that was the only place I could find fishbites after they came out, this time I plan to buy a spinning combo there as well as some fishbites, and anything I need to finish my leaders.
Cisco is 45 miles East of Abilene on I-20, a long ways from PINS which is what keeps me from fishing there a whole lot more, as it is we generally get 2 summer trips, one around Thanksgiving, and my kids get the first week of spring break so we try to go then to.
Thanks Again

What makes Academy evil? Is there not a need for two types of retailers? Besides the owner how much payroll goes to the local economy.
Why do people not complain when small town gas stations charge 10 to 20 cents a gallon more for gas than large towns? It's not because of rent or delivery charges, it's because they can.
What company do you work for and where does the money go?
If there was only one local store and they charged 10 times more than a store 2 hours away, what would you do? |

Better Yet...
Bypass Roy's and Academy, and email Jason (KingKilla).
He's got all the supplies you need, cheaper, and he's an even SMALLER business 'Local Guy'.
He has 550# Mono a LOT cheaper than roy's...and he has plenty, with crimps.
He has cable, hooks, etc...check it out:

I think the price is the same at Academy, Wal Mart or Roy's for fishbites. I believe they go for $4.95 a pack at all three. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

| Who uses Fish Bites for shark fishing? I thought the thread was about shark fishing leaders not Trout/Red fishing. |
