| When fishing in the surf for trout I have always fished the wade gut looking for cuts and deep pockets, and I was wondering if it was better to fish there or out farther in the secong gut? any input would be appreciated, thanks |

Tiff's 27" speck came out ofthe wade gut on green fishbites. Came out of 18" of water.
The most specks I ever caught was in the 1st gut fishing right behind the sandbar between the clear water of the gut and the dirty water on the sandbar.
Neither of us has ever pulled a speck out of the second gut, but I imagine they are there too. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.

All my specs have come from the first bar throwing towards the second bar with live mullet. _________________ Fishing and Kayaking its a rough life but somebody has to do it.

| Never doubt the 2nd gut. I've caught fish in the 2nd when I couldn't buy a hit in the wade gut. Try a red and white TTR and cast down the bar on about a 40 degree angle. Every once in a while turn back and plug the wade gut just to make sure you're not missing anything behind you. |

I know we all have different views of which gut is which, but to clarify my earlier message, here is my understanding of the structure of the beach from the beach out:
beach
wade-gut (sometime this is just wet sand on an extremely low tide)
1st bar
1st gut
2nd bar
2nd gut
3rd bar
gulf of Mexico
Wade gut - Tiff's 27 " trout
1st gut - caught lots of specks on the back of the 1st bar
2nd gut - no luck yet, but I bet they are there too. Usually don't wade out that far. _________________ Give a man a fish, feed him for a day.
