Sat. June 11 we had 6 clients from Dallas that booked a fishing trip with myself and my son for the week-end. This is a Father & Son group fishing trip that had a little added twist as we fished the rocks. One of the fathers caught a 33 1/2" red that weighed 12 lbs and he fought it for about 20 minutes ( a reel fighter ). We tagged the fish and it's going to the taxidermist. After catching a few more keeper trout and reds all of a sudden we had another big fish on for one of the young men that is 17 years old and never fished saltwater before. We naturally assumed it was another big red, but we were wrong. After a 25 minute battle we finally were able to net the fish. We really didn't know what to think as we looked at the fish, but wanted to find out if anyone else had any knowledge of Tripletail in Baffin. Called my friend Capt.Steve Shultz and he told me to call Capt. Ron Behnke to see if he knew anything and also to get some certified scales to weigh the fish. Capt. Behnke had loaned his scales out and had not had them returned so he told me to check with Roy's Bait & Tackle.
This was all going on the day after the fish was caught at about 8:30 in the evening on Sunday so we had to wait to get with Rocky on Monday morning to weigh & measure. The fish weighed 16 lbs 10 oz , measured 27 3/4 " length, and had a 23 3/4" girth. Rocky told me to check with TP&W about a Body Of Water Record and it looks like it will be the record for Baffin Bay after we send all the info to them. One of the Game Wardens at the Regional Office said he had no knowledge of any Tripletail ever coming out of Baffin . After calling and telling his dad about this and hearing he might have the record for Tripletail in Baffin this young man will forever be a saltwater fisherman. Didn't mean to get long winded , but being a fishing guide and having your own son that is a guide also and who was the guide for this young man who caught the fish, well it just doesn't get any better than that.
I can't seem to post image of fish ( could someone let me know exactly how to post image ? ) , so if you go to our website on page 4 of fishing photo's page is where is located. www.thextremeoutdoors.com[/url]

Nice fish!! They get a number of tripletail in Matagorda, but that's the first I've heard of one in Baffin. Congratulations!
